Message from Nicola Strother Smith
National Director, NHS Diabetes and Kidney Care
Welcome to our third online issue of the NHS Health Check ebulletin. In these uncertain times, good news is always welcome and the start of 2012 has certainly provided us with positive news for the future of the programme. I am delighted that the NHS Health Check programme is included in the NHS Operating Framework for 2012/13: “It will be incumbent that PCT clusters maintain appropriate investment in public health services throughout transition”, and the NHS Health Check programme will be monitored nationally as part of the Government’s commitment to the programme. The NHS Health Check programme was also included in the NHS Operating Framework’s summary ‘must do’ table on page 49 of the document.
We are also delighted to welcome two new Department of Health leads to the management of the NHS Health Check programme – Liz Woodeson, Director of Health and Wellbeing Division, and Richard Cienciala, Deputy Director of Health and Wellbeing Division (Obesity Branch Head). Many of you will have met Liz and Richard at the last two Learning Network Events.
We are also pleased to see in the NHS Operating Framework the continuation of the SHA bundle in 2012/13. NHS Diabetes and Kidney Care is funded through this route, and so will be here to continue support for the NHS Health Check programme.
So, on these positive points, read on for more information on the NHS Health Check programme.
